Sun Palace Cancun has been named #1 Couples Resort 2014 in Cancun by MyVacationPages. We headed to Sun Palace to personally experience and review this incredible hotel in November 2013. Our personal blog review is below.
I was in search of somewhere that would allow me and my wife to enjoy time alone, meet other couples for some good conversation, and quit simply, a place that oozed romance. After talking to our editor who specialize in Cancun, and with her personal recommendation in hand, I decided to visit the Sun Palace Cancun. We were told that the Sun Palace Cancun experience is truly unique with their modern amenities, delectable cuisine, and social atmosphere where good friends are easy to make.
The Sun Palace Cancun turned out to be one of our most memorable escapes ever. Our vacation at Sun Palace was defined upon arrival when we entered the lobby area; diverse, spacious, conveniently laid out and enriched with modern finesse.
We were greeted warmly by a gentleman who gave my wife a beautiful fresh picked flower. Inside we were provided with a cold towel and welcome cocktail, which certainly hit the spot after our long trip in from Montreal, Canada.
The tour desk in the lobby where you can plan your day full of adventure for all things travel related seemed to be where the action was. We appreciated the efficiency and good advice we received. When a staff member suggested a cheaper alternative because they thought we would enjoy that excursion more, we knew the service was above reproach and they were not just looking to complete the sale. They did not push any of their products on us, but let us choose at our own leisure.
From our tenth floor ocean side room, we had an incredible view up and down the Cancun beach. We woke up every morning before sunrise and spent about an hour watching a group of pelicans do some early morning fishing. To say the least, the view was spectacular.
The room was modern and very airy. Light walls and furnishings accented by warm hues created the perfect intimate space for couples. The bed was warm and comfortable with linens and pillows that I would use in my own home. A large double Whirpool that divided the room made for easy access when the mood was right. The open bathroom with its modern fixtures created a zen like flow. Separate shower and toilette will gave us the privacy when needed. Everything was spotless when we got there and every day the housekeeping staff returned the room to its original glory.
An impressive nine restaurants and pool bars offer any kind of taste that you desire. Each restaurant has unique dining to offer, and this keeps things interesting by continuously trying new delicacies that tantalized our every taste bud. From experiences at past resorts there is always one meal that doesn't seem to hit the spot but I really couldn't say that about The Sun Palace Cancun. We were told by many that the food there was amazing and for once we got what we expected. The 24 hour room service is especially appreciated, as being on vacation for romance we wanted to spend some extra time in our room.
Walking the paths, we followed the tempting smells that beckoned us straight to the Alamo restaurant. We ended up eating here quite a few times during our stay; the food was incredible and the wait staff attentive. I would like to thank Irving and Pedro (pictured left) for a service that went beyond their regular duties. They made us feel right at home, always reserving our favorite seats, and uplifting our spirits with stories of their families.
We loved the ambiance of The Steak restaurant which rivaled the tenderness and taste of New York's finest. The setting was outside by the pools and resembled a restaurant you would find strolling through the streets in Paris. We were able to meet other couples with who we enjoyed some good conversation. The tone of the evening was set by the sound of lapping waves and star studded skies overhead. Soft music from entertainers filled the air and helped to deliver their vision of a truly romantic dinner under the stars.
We also tried La Tratto, which offered delicious Italian cuisine with an elegant flair. Walking in this restaurant, we knew we were in for a treat. The staff was courteous and accommodating, allowing us to wait for the best seat in the house. There is a special area in the restaurant that offers a glass floor overlooking the Caribbean sea and we had to try it out. That was an unexpected touch and we find ourselves sharing this dinner story with friends and family. The food there was delicious! We ended up eating there several evenings and even squeezed in one last dinner before we left.
To describe the overall layout of the hotel I would say it was reminiscent of a modern spa. Large windows that ran across the entire wall of the hallway let in the sunshine and allowed for spectacular views of the Nichupte Lagoon from inside. The property is well laid out and continues the spa-like theme outdoors.
There are areas full of energy, music, and fun, and others that are peaceful, private, and relaxed. This is the perfect ambiance for couples, as the backdrop fades in and out of whatever your feeling up to in the moment. An example of this were the pools. Our first evening we decided to take a dip and we noticed that the hotel had two separated areas, one with music and crowd, the other serene and quiet. We opted for the music where we easily made new friends while sipping on authentic Mexican drinks.
The Sun Palace Cancun is the 4th hotel on the strip from the airport, and this prime location is certainly worthy of a mention. Like the resort itself, you are always able to relax or celebrate at your leisure.
Entertainment on the resort was great. Augustin deserves a special mention. This tireless entertainer was always around the resort, keeping everyone informed on what activities were being presented throughout the day. We took advantage of several; some just because he promised we would have fun, and he was right. We had a great time and made memories we will rehash for years to come. If you get the chance to see the Fire Show on the beach, you are in for a great treat.
The spa at the Sun Palace is a must; it not only relaxes you individually, but as a unit as well. We were given a royal service with time to talk with each other and enjoy the calm zen like atmosphere.
The concept of Zen became a reality as soon as we entered the spa. Finally, we understood what people were trying to achieve when they used the word Zen. We were given the opportunity to receive our massages with an ocean view, which turned out to be one of the most memorable moments for us at the Sun Palace Cancun, and is why we highly recommend making this a priority during your stay.
The age group at Sun Palace ranged widely from mid twenties to early sixties but tended to be more on the young trendy side. The main pool always had music with great people we met over the days, and no matter the age, making friends here was easy.
Being our choice for Best Couples Resort, the activities and amenities center around this theme. But beyond Sun Palace's offerings is the attitude of other guests (and staff). Everyone respects when you need some time alone. There is no pressure to chitchat if you don't feel like it because we are all here for the same purpose. To spend time as a couple.
The Sun Palace Cancun was voted the Best Couples Resort in Cancun by MyVacationPages because everything from service to activity, suite to restaurant, centered around the perfect couples vacation. Sun Palace achieves this while still ensuring every vacation is tailored to the needs and interests of their guests. This is one of the few hotels we felt had an amazing aura with a vibrant population of people from all walks of life. Sun Palace has created a haven of escape with your loved one, and the staff deserve much credit for being the heart of the operation. Simply amazing!
Thank you Pablo and Adriana for this great experience and we cannot wait to come back.
