We drive 45 minutes to the historic old town of Stirling and stay for 2 hours. First, a detailed overview of the area is given and you can explore the castle and royal palace inside, nearby alternatives include the William Wallace monument and the battlefield of Bannock Burn 1314 AD. Midday, we drive along a nice country road for another 60 minutes to the "Bonnie Bonnie banks of Loch Lomond", the largest freshwater loch in the UK, where the Scottish Highlands begin and witness a stunning view of the Highland fault line. Then, a 40-minute nature trail which you will love! Then it is lunchtime in Balmaha. Late afternoon our last main stop is one of the most pretty whiskey distilleries you will find in Scotland. There, you will have an hour and a half to taste the finest drams and shop for gifts.
This is a totally awesome and action-packed day tour, just like namesake Lock Awe. You will be taking the high road along the Bonnie Bonnie banks of Loch Lomond with a short rest stop. Then, we make our way to the romantic Kilchurs Castle for a short nature trail and go inside so you can look around and take great photos. The spoils, especially reaped by Campbells and their chief, the Duke of Argyll against their enemies, defeated Jacobite clans. Oban, a popular port town takes visitors by ferries to the remote West Coast Isles, surrounded by beautiful countryside with historic castles. In Oban, there is a variety of places to eat lunch, and most people choose to eat seafood here, especially fish & chips. You can also visit the Oban distillery for a walking tour.
Day 1 - northbound via Stirling. A short 30-minute nature near Dunkeld and lunch at Pitlochry, a nice Scottish town. Another optional stop on the way at a whiskey distillery for tasting, followed by a very scenic quiet drive. Stop for fresh air and photos at Loch Laggan. Then the road goes up to the Great Glen a,d Loch Ness.
Day 2 - after breakfast, one-hour small boat cruise, more about Nessie and the ruined Urquhart Castle. Driving back to the Great Glen and follow another wee highland road along the Caledonian Canal. Spean bridge for any tourist merchandise gifts. Into fort William and the most scenic drive of the tour, especially at Glencoe and Glen Etive and Loch Lomond. Stopping at a 300-year-old pub before returning to Glasgow.
