Words simply cannot justify the sight of this spectacular phenomenon. It’s an experience that we know you will want to savour and enjoy. So, with this in mind, our Northern Lights tour has been created accordingly - with an absolute emphasis on the word ‘experience’. First off, we will start our hunt for the Northern Lights with a bit of pre-planning via the Aurora forecast and start our exploration by heading in that direction. Should ‘that direction’ lead us over mountain tracks and rivers – then fear not for our Super Trucks (19.900 ISK) are suitably equipped to tackle such terrain.
Our minibuses (9.900 ISK) take you comfortably towards the proposed location of the lights, in a group no bigger than 16 people. We like to keep good connection with our customers and even though the minibus fits more, we do not exceed this number. Once (and if) the elusive lights appear its time to pull over, set up the chairs and blankets, and take in the spectacular swirling overhead light show. Now is the time we break out the hot chocolate and Icelandic pastries known as ‘kleina’ (a sort of twisted, yummy doughnut) – all of which are included in the tour price.
Could there ever be a better moment?
Local dinner on a horse ranch, Mt Kirkjufell which was a filming location for Game of Thrones season 7, Eldborg, Berserk lava, Grundarfjordur, Djupalonssandur black beach, Arnarsstapi fishing village, Londrangar and Snaefellsjokull glacier. And the overall beauty of the Snaefellsnes peninsula.
Join us as we head west on a full day magical mystical tour to the Snaefellsnes Peninsula and surroundings. Countless lunar landscapes and volcanic vistas lie in store for us as we drive west out of Reykjavik and head towards the magnificent Snæfellsjökull glacier.
The glacier sits atop the active stratovolcano of the same name that took centre stage in the Jules Verne sci-fi novel, ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’. You might even have spotted the ice cap glittering from across the bay in Reykjavik. The volcano is thought to house mystical powers and is considered by many to be one of the seven main energy centres of the earth, so don’t be surprised if you experience an unexplained spiritual energy flow whilst in its presence.
This is an area is of exceptional geological beauty – craters, lava fields (some more recent than others) idyllic, hidden coves and bizarre rock formations all lie in wait to be explored and discovered. Local legends and folk stories abound and are an essential element of this multifaceted tour. The day would not be complete without an Icelandic home-cooked early evening meal along with some local interaction - so, naturally, this is also included. As are some light snacks and bottled Icelandic water. A fabulous tour that really hits the spot when it comes to observing volcanic phenomena, discovering Iceland’s dramatic coast line and experiencing a more spiritual and mystical side of Iceland.
On the Reykjavík Walking Tour you get to know the most northern capital city in the world with an expert local guide at hand. The famous Hallgrimskirkja church, Harpa music hall and the Sun Voyager.
The tour starts at What´s On tourist information located on Laugavegur 5 in central Reykjavik. We will begin our trip at the beautiful Sun voyager sculpture, overlooking the bay with Mt Esja in the background. Next stop is Hallgrímskirkja Church at the top of the downtown hill, we first go up the bell tower for an incredible view over the city with its multi-coloured rooftops, Faxaflói bay with its islands and the surrounding mountains and volcanoes.
Afterwards we visit the beautiful sculpture park of Einar Jónsson and learn all about Norse mythology before strolling through the quaint streets of Þingholt neighbourhood towards the City Pond. We feed the ducks, geese and swans found on the northern end of the pond. Great fun for kids and grown ups alike.
Continuing across the pond and into the City Hall we view the super-sized topographical map of Iceland and your guide will explain a little bit about Iceland’s fascinating geology and volcanic history. Our tour then threads the heart of the city, taking in the parliament, our modest but beautiful cathedral and the site of the first Viking homesteads in the city, before visiting the Old Harbor.
Strolling along the north shore from the harbor we visit the impressive Harpa Concert Hall before our final stop at the Volcano House where our guests will enjoy a short presentation and discounts from the store and exhibition.
We'd love to put together the tour of your dreams, short or long, summer or winter, small group or large, whatever you'd like.
