Over the years, the Ambassade Hotel has expanded considerably. Starting with just one canal-side building in 1953, it now has 56 hotel rooms distributed among 10 of these buildings. Eight of these canal-side homes are on the “Herengracht” canal, while two others are located on the “Singel” canal. Other buildings are in use by the Ambassade Hotel too, but for other purposes: a few houses further along the Herengracht is the hotel’s Float & Massage Centre known as Koan Float and 150 metres further along the Singel canal you will find the hotel’s conference room.
Except for the building at 335 Herengracht, all the canal-side buildings are physically interconnected. So as not to unnecessarily damage the original character of these canal-side homes, small sets of stairs and landings can be found at various places in the halls and in some of the rooms themselves to bridge the differences in floor elevations between the buildings.
Over the years, two lifts have been installed, making all rooms easily accessible. The canal houses have been carefully restored to maintain their authentic character and all rooms and suites have been stylishly furnished and decorated. The furnishings are predominantly Louis XV/XVI style with the use of colourful fabrics and in all rooms and public areas you will find original paintings by artists from the famous Cobra movement.
The privately owned Ambassade Hotel has an extraordinary charm, style and individuality. But most important of all is that the Ambassade Hotel will really make you feel at home. We care about you, we want you to feel more than welcome, and we want you to leave with treasured memories of a truly wonderful stay. This is why the friendly, courteous and helpful staff of the Ambassade Hotel is there for you, day and night.
Whether you’re in Amsterdam on business or pleasure, at the Ambassade Hotel you’ll feel at home in this city from the first moment you arrive. The rooms welcome you with their unique atmosphere; most also offer you an exclusive view of the waterways. The hotel has a total of 56 elegant rooms, including 16 deluxe rooms, 9 superior rooms, 2 suites and an apartment.
The canal houses of the Ambassade Hotel are built throughout the 17th, 18th and 20th century. Owing to its historical architecture, no two rooms are alike at the Ambassade Hotel. This individual character is further reflected in the variety of décors and colour schemes in the rooms. But they do have certain things in common, such as luxurious furnishings in Louis XVI and Louis XV style.
A stimulating contrast is offered by the predominantly 20th century paintings by Theo Wolvecamp and many other artists from the famous Cobra-movement. All this gives each room its inimitable atmosphere of cosmopolitan generosity and typical Dutch cosiness. At the Ambassade Hotel you sleep in beds with quality mattresses and large pillows. Each room has a desk and a sitting area with two comfortable armchairs. The luxuriously equipped modern bathrooms all have a shower and most bathrooms also have a bath. You will find bath slippers and a broad assortment of toiletries in the bathroom. All rooms are equipped with a flat screen colour television and a telephone with voicemail plus free broadband and Wi-Fi Internet access. A safe for your valuables is likewise standard and in most rooms these safes boast a charging-capability as well.
In the summer of 2015, “Brasserie Ambassade” opened its doors in the Ambassade Hotel. The Brasserie and the annex Library Bar were renovated after a design by Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos from Seville.
Since it’s opening in August 2015 Brasserie Ambassade has received laudatory praise from critics and visitors alike. Here you can enjoy a classic French Cuisine prepared by Executive Chef Erik Zonjee and his team. Surrounded by the colourful paintings from the Cobra movement the Brasserie also boasts a beautiful view on Herengracht.
Brasserie Ambassade solely uses specially selected, high-quality ingredients by carefully chosen suppliers with an emphasis on fresh, seasonal and locally produced, artisanal products.
