The Bucket List for Couples in Negril
Kool Running Waterpark – North of Negril
When was the last time you went to a water park? Recapture the glory of youth at Kool Runnings Waterpark in Negril. Jamaica’s newest water park has 10 water slides (some up to 40 feet high), a lazy river with waterfalls, three restaurants, a juice bar and a sports bar. Unlike some others, which are open only to resort guests, the free standing Kool Runnings can be enjoyed by all. Not only will you cool off and have fun, but you will get to see what your other half was like as a kid!
One Love Reggae Concert Series – in Negril
Negril has enjoyed an entertainment boom of sorts in the last nine years, and the One Love Reggae series is leading this re-emergence. The concerts are held throughout the town during early August when Jamaica celebrates its independence from Britain.
Before it became dominated by swanky, all-inclusive hotels, Negril was a sleepy, fishing village. During the 1960s and 1970s, it became a popular hangout for back-packing American hippies and Europeans. Join this laid back vibe and feel the beats of Jamaica by the some of the worlds best musicians.
Abba Jahnehoy Place – in Negril
Also known as the “Rastafarian Experience,” this property helps to expose visitor to the Rastafarian culture and touches on subjects such as spirituality, dreadlocks, eating habits, literature, music, crafts, and more.
A banner reading “One Love” greets guests as they walk onto the property. The main house is a three story building set among beautiful landscaping and including a view of Negril Point. Even without the cultural significance, this is a sight to be seen. We recommend calling ahead with your request to tour. This way the owner will be there to share the history and culture with you personally.
Collette’s Bar – Negril
Collette, the owner, a sweetheart with an old soul, makes her guests feel at home. She is the heart and soul of the place and her energy keeps people returning again and again. The drinks she serves are cheap, cold, and strong. There always seems to be a crowd of happy people laughing and carrying on in the bar. Reggae music is always playing and there are plenty of locals lingering around chatting with the tourists. The vibes here demonstrate the “one love” Jamaican lifestyle and no one is treated like a stranger. The positivity found here will stay with you long after your vacation is over.
Cliff-Side Dining at its best. We would put it up against any restaurant in town. Romantic candle lit tables for two on the edge of the cliff, were very nice. The foliage mixed with tiny white Christmas lights all around makes for intimacy in the evening and a wide open view during the day. Caribbean elegant at its finest.
As good as it is, and it’s very good, there’s no pretension. Make sure to reserve a table well in advance for at least one of your sunsets.
This utterly unpretentious restaurant has achieved something like cult status among travelers who have eaten here since the 1970s. Just show up on the doorstep of this place along the West End beach strip, and see what’s cooking. Curried goat is a specialty, as is fresh fried fish. The red snapper is caught in local waters. But the big draw is the restaurant’s namesake, the chef’s special Jamaican chicken. It’s amazingly consistent, fried or served with curry or sweet-and-sour sauce. The chef will tell you, and you may agree, that it’s the best on the island. You can dine on the roofed veranda or ask for takeout.
