If you want to plan a dive trip to the famous Great Blue Hole, we have put together a spectacular assortment of travel choices to consider on your dive vacation.
Belize as a whole is definitely a dive worthy destination. Spy a Caribbean reef shark, enjoy the fascination of schools of fish as they pass an arm lengths away from you, enjoy the vibrant colors of the ocean life, and so much more. The natural phenomenon of The Blue Hole has translated into a one for scuba divers. We have a few suggestions to make this a trip never to forget. From stunning hotels to laid back places to eat, read on to get the scoop on this famous phenomenon.
As the center of this dive vacation, The Blue Hole is sure to be the highlight. A few facts about the depths of this incredible ocean peculiarity is that it’s about 60 miles off the coast of Belize City, on Lighthouse Reed. The Blue Hole measures 1/4 mile (.4 km) in diameter, and reaches 480 feet in depth. It is the depth that creates the dark blue circle picture above. It wouldn’t be a hole if the edges weren’t more shallow, right?
It saddens me to say that some believe the Blue Hole of Belize is the type of dive you absolutely must get off your list but really don’t care if you ever visit again. There’s hope however, for I think false assumptions and expectations are one of the main causes of disappointment. This dive site is different, it is the sort of novelty dive that, given the right conditions, can be enjoyed if approached with the right mind-set and expectations. Check out our complete overview to find out what exactly you can expect from, what we consider, a really cool dive site!
There are several tour companies offering dives here that will truly show you all the amazing things about the Great Blue Hole. Our recommended are:

Cultural & Delicious Dining Options
Ambergris Caye is one of the few destinations to offer value at their restaurants. It seems that the more affordable the place, the more great the options. Seafood weighs into the menu immensely. The quality and freshness of ingredients are what stand out above all else. Must try: Coco’s Loco Beach Bar
